May 2025 | Recognizing Mental Health Awareness Month
Welcome to the May edition of the Community Wellness Newsletter from New Leaf Family
Services & Wellness Center. Each month we share mental health education, wellness resources,
and updates on how we are supporting individuals and families throughout our community.
This month we recognize Mental Health Awareness Month, an important time dedicated to
raising awareness about mental health, reducing stigma, and encouraging open conversations
about emotional well-being.
Why Mental Health Awareness Matters
Mental health plays a critical role in how we think, feel, and navigate everyday life. Yet many
individuals still face barriers when it comes to discussing mental health challenges or seeking
support.
Mental Health Awareness Month helps communities:
Increase understanding of mental health and emotional well-being
Encourage individuals to seek help when needed
Reduce stigma surrounding behavioral health challenges
Promote supportive environments where people feel safe sharing their experiences
At New Leaf Family Services & Wellness Center, we believe that awareness and education are
powerful tools in helping individuals and families build healthier lives.
Reducing Stigma Through Conversation
Stigma surrounding mental health often prevents people from asking for help or sharing their
experiences. One of the most effective ways to reduce stigma is through open and
compassionate conversation.
When communities create safe spaces where individuals feel heard and supported, people are
more likely to access the care and resources they need.
Simple actions that can help reduce stigma include:
Listening without judgment
Educating ourselves about mental health
Encouraging friends or family members to seek support
Sharing accurate information about emotional well-being
Every conversation helps normalize mental health as an important part of overall wellness.
Community Support in Action
At New Leaf Family Services & Wellness Center, our mission is to support individuals
experiencing behavioral health challenges while helping them develop the skills needed to build
stable and fulfilling lives.
In addition to therapeutic services and psychosocial rehabilitation programs, we provide
community-based support that helps address everyday barriers.
Our services include:
Transportation assistance through bus passes
Referrals for transitional housing programs
Food and clothing pantry support (based on availability)
Assistance with Nevada ID and Social Security applications
Community referrals for individuals and families in need
These resources allow individuals to focus on their personal growth and emotional well-being
while receiving support for essential life needs.
Client Perspective
Creating a safe and supportive environment can help individuals feel comfortable discussing
their experiences and beginning their journey toward healing.
“Being able to talk about my mental health without feeling judged helped me realize that I
wasn’t alone. The support I received gave me the confidence to keep moving forward.”
— New Leaf Client
Stories like this highlight how compassion, understanding, and community support can make a
meaningful difference.
Wellness Tip of the Month
Check In With Yourself
Taking a few minutes each day to reflect on your emotional well-being can help you stay
connected to your needs.
Consider asking yourself:
How am I feeling today?
What is one thing I can do to support my well-being today?
Who can I reach out to if I need support?
Regular self-check-ins can help build emotional awareness and encourage healthy coping
strategies.
